The piece
Natural wood clic-clac frame with sage-green hexagonal bead clasp. The wood is solid and unvarnished: it warms to the touch and ages beautifully.
The tapestry is a discarded flower-garden upholstery — roses, carnations, hydrangeas, a blue iris and even a grasshopper hidden in the leaves. The pattern changes from one side of the bag to the other: no two faces show the same flowers.
A forest-green velvet panel down the middle softens the shape and sets off the pattern. Inside, a red tartan lining: the surprise when it opens is part of the piece. Hand-finished seams and a squared base, so the bag stands up on its own.
